Open TestFlight

You will see VT Workbench listed.
2

Tap Install

It downloads like any other app. Around 40 MB, so a few seconds on a decent connection.
3

Find it on your home screen

It installs alongside your other apps, with an orange dot beside its name. The dot simply means “this came from TestFlight” — it is not a warning.
4

Open it

The first launch takes a moment longer than usual while it sets up its local database.

About that 90-day countdown

TestFlight shows an expiry date for the build. When it lapses, the app refuses to open until you install a newer one.
This is Apple’s rule for all TestFlight builds, not something specific to us. In practice you will have updated several times before any build gets close to expiring — but if you ever open the app and it says the build has expired, the fix is simply to open TestFlight and install the latest.

Turn on automatic updates

Worth doing now, and it saves you thinking about it again. In TestFlight, open the Workbench’s page and turn on Automatic Updates. New builds then install themselves.

If you already had a copy from us

Some of you have been running a build installed directly from a laptop. The TestFlight version replaces it, and you should assume your local data will not survive the swap.
Back up first. Open the existing app, go to Settings → Backup, and take a backup before installing the TestFlight build. Then restore it afterwards. Full instructions: Backup and restore.

What you will need at first launch

  • To sign in or create an account — one screen, an email and a password
  • To allow access to Health data — several permission prompts
  • A few details about yourself, so the calculations have something to work with
Roughly ten minutes, most of it tapping Allow.
