Early on, the app asks you to give this phone a name — something like “Csanad’s iPhone 12” or “work phone”.

Why it asks

Two reasons, both practical. Research reports. When you Send to VT, the report is labelled with this name. If you run the Workbench on two phones, it is how we tell the reports apart — otherwise two contradictory reports arrive and we cannot tell whether that is one confused device or two different ones. Your own records. Some connections are per-device, and a name makes a list of them readable rather than a wall of identifiers.

What to put

Anything you will recognise. It is never shown to anyone but us, and we only use it to group reports. If you only ever use one phone, this barely matters — put anything.

Changing it

Menu → Settings, and look for the device label. Changing it does not affect anything already sent.
