What Discovery is
Discovery is a tab along the bottom of the Workbench. It interrogates each of your connected sources and asks a question we cannot answer any other way:What can you actually give me?Not what the manufacturer advertises. What your particular device, on your particular phone, with your particular sync history, genuinely hands over — how far back it goes, how often it reports, and what it simply does not have.
Why we keep asking
Because the answer changes, and a single snapshot would mislead us.- A firmware update adds a measurement your watch never used to report
- You connect a second device, or stop wearing the first
- A source quietly stops providing something it used to
- A permission gets revoked without anyone noticing
This is the only job here that is purely for our benefit — which makes
it the easiest to skip and the most important to remember. Everything else you
do for yourself and we learn from as a side effect.
How to run it
1
Tap Discovery along the bottom
2
Let it run
Each connected source gets a card. It takes a few seconds per source; some are
slower because they are asking a server rather than your phone.
3
Tap Send to VT
On each source card you want to report. The button confirms when it has gone.
What Send to VT transmits
Reports only is the shape of your data, not your health history: which
measurements exist, how far back they reach, how often they arrive, where the
gaps are.
Everything includes your actual records. It is much larger, may be rejected
for size, and we will only ever ask for it when chasing a specific problem.
Either way the report is labelled with the device
name you set, so we can tell reports from
different phones apart.
How often
Every week or two is ideal. Also worth doing whenever something changes:- You connect a new device or source
- You get a firmware update
- You stop wearing something
- Something looks wrong — a Discovery report often explains it
